Today was a very long day of travel and maybe a little grumpiness from both of us from being out the night before. 🤷🏻♀️ We woke up at 630, got ready, packed and loaded the buggy. We returned to one of the bakeries that we visited earlier in the week for some breakfast and caffeine.
Then we drove to the Port of Naxos to return the buggy and wait for our ferry back to Athens.
By 10:00 we were on the high sea on our way to the mainland of Greece. For as big as the ferry was, the ride caused me some sea sickness so I ended up falling asleep. We arrived to the next port around 1:20 and for a taxi for the crazy drive to the airport to pick up our car. (Before I was a travel agent, we made a mistake in our bookings so the car was already scheduled for pick up at the airport. It would have cost too much to make the change.)
Once we obtained the car which is a Volkswagen Polo, we headed across land toward Kylini to the port. We stopped briefly to pick up some cheese pies and drinks at a gas station rest area. It was almost a 4 hour drive and even though we arrived earlier than we anticipated, we were not able to move our ferry ticket time up to the 7:45 departure. We had to wait until 9:30. So we went to the nearby cafe for more nourishment. I had a savory crepe which was not really what I expected and John has grilled shrimp. Let’s just say we’ve had better food than we did today.
We are now on the ferry to Zakinthos which is another island. We have decided to go to this island to see the famous shipwreck who h can only be seen by boat. We will drive our car off of the ferry and to our next Airbnb.
To add to our adventures, one of my molars has cracked and I am hoping that I can make it through the rest of the trip with no major issues with it. I did call the dentist today and scheduled an appointment for the day after we return. Send some good thoughts our way, please!
